Schoolfeeding:
Wrigglers from are supplied with a self study/homeschooling software that covers topics from grade one to six (reading, writing, ´rithmatic) as well as indoctrination, castelore. Study is enforced by the lusi. There are no grades or age restrictions, each wriggler studies at their own pace. (Or doesn´t, as in Gamzee´s case).
During this time, wrigglers are watched for special talents or abilities. (Such as Psionics)

Independent Study:
From the age of 7 sweeps, young trolls may apply for training at their chosen profession. They study alone now, and will be watched by the profession they applied for or the profession interested in their abilities.
The only influence young trolls really have over their future profession is showing either talents suited to it or independent work to develop skills needed therein. The interests of the empire are always put above the wishes of the young troll. Higher castes are always favored over lower.
(For example, Sollux could apply for training as a programmer till the moobeasts came home, he´d still be made a Helmsman for his Psionics, whereas Terezi would have a very good chance at being accepted at the Academy of Alternian Law due to her independent study of law.)

Academy or Training:
From the age of 10 sweeps, trolls are assigned to either one of the Alternian Academies or training camps. Academies:
The Alternian Imperial Academies are housed in an artificial planet. The largest and best funded is the Military Academy, followed by the Academy of Law, then Medicine, Sciences and Engineering and last Scolarities. (Humanities for trolls) It is possible to study at more than one academy at the same time.
Training Camps:
Training camps are for those conscripted to military service, but too lowblooded to be offered places at the Academy. Other training camps are Shipyards for Helmsmen and work-camps for manufacturing professions.

Subjuggulators:
Are the exception to the rules mentioned above. They are taken in and trained by their caste in monastery like communities.



Marriage and ‘Families’

Gender is nearly irrelevant among trolls, due to the fact that trolls are hermaphrodites, and the only physical gender difference it the bone structure and vestigial breasts on females.



Marriage
Marriage exists for all quadrants, however rather than a full wedding as we humans know it, the act of marrying is simply declaring yourselves married. Marriage among trolls is not equal, the higherblooded partner controls the lower, much like in human patriarchal marriage. The degree of this control is determined by the quadrant gap between the partners. [For example, if Vrisrezi married, they would be little difference between them save for Vriska having the final say in arguments perhaps. If on the other hand Erisol married, Eridan could run Sollux´s life almost entirely, including having a say in who is allowed in his other quadrants.] For this reason more than any other, it is uncommon to marry more than three tiers above or below ones own.

Family
Troll ‘families’ are formed by the various quadrant relationships, regardless of any genetic relationship between the members. Close family consists of ones quadrant partners and theirs, ‘cousins’ are the quadrantmates of quadrant mates, everyone else is extended family. The rank within the families is determined by blood colour, with the highest blooded member as matriarch/patriarch, who also determines the boundaries of immediate family. [If for example, Gamzee had Equius as matespirit, Terezi as kismesis, and Karkat as morail, the immediate family would be these three plus Nepeta (on two sides, as Karkats matespirit and Equius´morail), and Vriska. Cousins would be Eridan (Vriskas kismesis) and Sollux (Karkats kismesis)] The interconnected groups used to live in connected but separate dwellings, thus the term hives.
